The Demolition of the Cavs?

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in their last days. How did it come to the point of demolition?

  1. Andrew Wiggins trade. Andrew Wiggins is a better fit than Kevin Love and would have given Golden State fits.

  1. Firing David Blatt in 2016. Even though Lue won the title, Blatt is a better coach. The players did not buy in to his coaching philosophy. Lue didn't either. He was able to convince Dan Gilbert that he should be the guy and was given the opportunity. However, he's not seasoned enough for that job and it showed in the 2017 Finals.

  2. Cavs featured players. Attempting to win multiple titles with the likes of JR Smith, Tristian Thompson, Iman Shumpert and others was not a good strategy. These are not complete basketball players and can only provide you with certain skill sets.

  3. Free agency 2016. The Cavs celebrated all summer while the Warriors improved. Golden State signed Durant and the Cavs did not. Instead, they are over the cap and can only make trades or take in cast-offs like Kyle Korver and DeRon Williams.

  4. Firing David Griffin. He built the roster that competed for the championship three years in a row.

With Paul George on the trading block, the Cavs were willing to give up Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving in order to get him.

If no moves are made this summer, this will probably be the last season of the Big 3. They will either be traded or move in free agency.

There is also talk that Carmelo or Wade may be bought-out of their contracts; however both players are on their last legs and would not improve their team.

The Cavs have sold out for rings and it has paid off in the short-term, but in a couple of years, Cleveland will be in the lottery again.

Dan Gilbert is Dan Gilbert. He is the same guy that dissed LeBron for leaving. LeBron has the opportunity to leave again.

Will Dan Gilbert be able to bring Chauncey Billups, a former player with no front-office experience, in as GM to stop the bleeding or has Cleveland become like New York?

It will be an interesting summer in Cleveland.
