This isn't Your Dad's or Grandad's NBA

This isn't your dad or grandad's NBA. Bill Russell hasn't played a game in almost 50 years. Michael Jordan hasn't played in almost 15 years. The NBA has evolved, whether you like it or not. All sports have evolved. Athletes are bigger, faster, and stronger overall. Athletes are training year round, not waiting on the first day of training camp.

The last players of the modern NBA to commit to one team were Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitiski. Both players will have at least played 20 years with the same franchise.

The new NBA is about movement. Players cannot sign 25 year contracts like Magic was able to do. For a fan like me, this is what I always wanted. Great players being able to play together or move to different teams.

Free agency in the NBA didn't begin until 1988 when Tom Chambers signed with the Phoenix Suns. After a few lockouts, the league has finally found a formula to both benefit the players and owners.

There will never be parity in the NBA. The NBA is built on star power, not teams or coaches like the NFL. In order for the NBA to popular, it realized that it had to make the players the stars, not the teams or coaches.

People say that the NBA is fixed and they will never watch it again, but come playoff time they are still watching.

The summer is about NBA free agency. Who's going to go where. Some may argue that the free agency period is more interesting than the regular season.

I look forward to the offseason every year because of the player movement. I want to see super teams, not boring games under 100 points. That's the old NBA, where teams couldn't score and the Bulls dominated the league.

The league is more wide open. Every team can score. You will still have your lottery teams, but they are not as bad as the 1996 Sixers.

Go ahead and watch YouTube or the History Channel if you want to relive your childhood. Meanwhile, I will be waiting on the NBA Summer League.
