Every once in a while, you will see a player that pushes the needle. Back in 1984, we saw Michael Jordan in the 1984 Summer Olympics. In 1996, we saw the birth of Kobe Bryant. In 2003, the LeBron James era began.
A new era in Los Angeles is set to begin. The Lakers have been known for landing marquee players throughout its history. After a few summer league games, it looks like it has landed its next star, Lonzo Ball.
The rookie from UCLA has put on some great performances these last two weeks in Las Vegas. Ball got off to an awful start in his first game, but has been on a tear every since.
Ball has brought a buzz to the NBA, selling out shows in Vegas like Wayne Newton. The Lakers have played the late game throughout the summer league, which has drawn more fans to the arena than expected.
Will the summer training transfer to October, when Lonzo will face the likes of Westbrook, Paul, Irving, Wall, and others? Or will Ball not mature fast enough like De'Angelo Russell and be shipped out of town before his rookie contract is over?
If Ball can overcome a calf injury suffered in the Lakers win over the Mavs, he will have a chance to end the summer with a championship.
