Mike Summers has waited on this moment almost all of his life. After a three-year career at Georgia Tech, Summers transferred home after graduation. He had to sit out the 2016 football season due to a calf injury, but the playmaking wide receiver will be back in action in 2017.

Get on the Bandwagon sat down with the former Statesboro High three-sport athlete to discuss his career and the 2017 football season.

Q: What is your sports background?

Basketball and football have always been my foundation. I played both sports throughout my athletic career with an exception to my senior year in high school.

Q: How did Benedictine and Statesboro High prepare you for Georgia Tech?

Both schools taught me how to compete and be self motivated. College is different from high school from a motivation standpoint. You have to want to go to class, practice and do the extra things to become successful.

Q: You were able to graduate and continue your career at Georgia Southern. How has the transition gone so far?

It's been filled with growth and some growing pains after tearing my calf last season. However, the coaching staff and my teammates welcomed me in and have remained patient throughout the entire process.

Q: What is your outlook on this year's season? What will your role be on the offense?

We're young but we'll be better. Guys have bought into what the coaches have implemented and everyone seems to be focused in. I'm being asked to be a playmaker and I'm locked in on that.

Q: What are your plans after this season?

I'd like to earn a chance to play at the next level. I'll also graduate with my master's.

Q: How has the wide receiver position changed throughout your college career?

The physicality is the biggest change. I took on more of a physical role at Tech versus having to use more of my athleticism and skill set at GA Southern. Mentally, I've learned more concepts within the position since being under a new position coach at Southern as well.

Q: Would you consider yourself a route-runner, possession receiver, or deep-threat?

Balanced, I've all the types you just mentioned on film. Versatility, gives you options.

Q: Is there a NFL receiver you pattern your game after?

Antonio Brown, he's versatile and a playmaker.

Q:How will it feel to finally play a game at Paulson Stadium in front of your friends and family?

It'll definitely be a humbling experience. Family is everything and being able to essentially play in my backyard will be a lot of fun.
