Being a Die-Hard Georgia Fan Will Kill You

I've rode many bandwagons in my day. I am a front-runner, and it is not by accident. I like great teams. I like great players. I have followed the Lakers and Cowboys forever.

College sports have been hard for me. Players change, coaches change...the people you rooted for graduate, or teams hit the death penalty. I can say I have been a Georgia football fan all of my life, every since Herschel Walker. I rooted for them in the Dooley Era. I rooted for them in the Goff era. I rooted for them in the Donnan Era. I was happy to see Coach Mark Richt come to Athens. I was almost a Georgia Bulldog myself, but chose a track scholarship over an opportunity to either attempt to walk-on or be a Joe College. I wanted to run more than I wanted to go to college.

Anyway, after following the Dawgs for all of these years, it has been hard. When you expect to win, you lose. When you expect to lose, you win. It is normal to go 9-3. It is like they can never get over the hump. Plus around the same time, we had Georgia Southern. They were winning. If Georgia didn't win, I could just go out to Paulson and see champions.

Kirby Smart is supposed to be the answer. I don't think he is. I'm not convinced in his ability as a head coach. I would rather have Richt, but he's gone and now its the Kirby show.

Smart has been recruiting some quality players from around Georgia and around the Nation. It remains to be seen what the Dawgs will do in 2017. When your childhood idol Cassius Osborn plays for them, you dream about going to Georgia and doing the same thing. When kids from your high school sign with Georgia, you instantly root for them again (Jon Knox, Justin Houston, and DeAngelo Tyson).

Georgia is not for the faint of heart. It is like you already know the ending before you watch the movie. I want them to win a national championship and get on top, but I do not think it will ever happen.

Now, I told you that I am a bandwagon and one team that caught my eye in the late 80's was the Miami Hurricanes. Everything about them was exciting. I have followed them every since. I am glad Coach Mark Richt is there.

So, that is where I am. I do root for Georgia Southern and Savannah State, and Georgia Tech when they are good, but that's about it. Something about Notre Dame and USC attracts me too.

So basically in college, I'm not loyal. Save that for the pros.
